    Barkley Lamar Stewart

    January 21, 1928 - January 28, 2022

    Mr. Barkley Lamar Stewart, 94 of Grand Bay, Alabama, passed from this life on Friday, January 28, 2022. He was born on January 21, 1928, in Kreole, Mississippi, to William R. Stewart and Laura D. Martin Stewart. Mr. Stewart was a devoted father and grandfather. He loved gardening, especially his fruit trees, and raising orchids. He liked to do woodworking and enjoyed making keepsakes for his family. He owned a camp on the river which he and his family enjoyed many memorable times together. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, St. Elmo, Alabama, a life member of the VFW Post 3373, Pascagoula, MS, and a member of the American Legion Post 1992, Gautier, MS. Mr. Stewart served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged as PFC. He was retired from the International Paper Company as a pulp mill supervisor after 41 years of service. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances E. Stewart, 2 sisters, Doris Rhodes and Lois Hubbard, and 2 brothers, W.R. Stewart, and Herman Stewart. Survivors include his children, Edward Stewart, Wanda Stewart Turner, Susan Stewart (Tony) Conway, Michael (Susan) Stewart, Lamenda Stewart (Dennis) Butters, and Steven (Dana) Stewart. Grandchildren, Ashley Williams, Kathleen Moore, Kayla White, Brandon Conway, Heather Stewart, Hayley Stewart, Justin Stewart, Seth Stewart, Breana Lee, Olivia Butters, Austin Butters, and Aaron Butters. 11 great-grandchildren, William Poche, Nolan Williams, Sarah Williams, Trey Moore, Braxton White, Carter White, Julie Ann White, Brileigh White, Marli Conway, Branson Conway, and Isla Conway. The family would like to thank two very special caregivers, Diane Johnson, and Jennifer Hayes. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Holder-Wells Funeral Home, 4007 Main St., Moss Point, MS., the funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Joseph Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Orange Grove Cemetery in Moss Point, MS.
