Mr. Lawrence "Larry" Wood

June 6, 1938 - January 30, 2022

The Reverend Doctor Lawrence Avera Wood passed away Sunday January 30, 2022 in Ocean Springs, MS. JUNE 16, 1938 he was born in Moss Point, MS, to Mr and Mrs E.G.Wood, SR. Lawrence was a graduate of Moss Point High School, Presbyterian College Clinton, SC and Columbia Theological Seminary Decatur, GA., 1964. After seminary he answered the call of Christ to pastor 5 church fields for the Presbyterian Church USA, in Mississippi, Georgia and Arkansas. In 1994, he was called to be the organizing pastor for The Johns Creek Presbyterian church, Johns Creek, GA. He spent the last fifteen years of ministry building a strong vibrant mission outreach for Christ in a large metropolitan area. In 1962, Helen Eickhoff and Larry were married in the Decatur Presbyterian Church. They had 3 children, one son preceded him in death. In the legacy of almost 60 years of marriage and service to our Lord in the southeastern church field an iconic pattern of a very successful strong ministry was established! Larry leaves his wife, 2 children, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. All of his life prayer and leaning on the spoken word were the cornerstone of his ministry! Many were and are still being blessed! To God be the glory!!! A celebration of life graveside service will be Tuesday February 1,2022 at Griffin cemetery in Moss Point, Mississippi beginning at 1:00pm.
