Lorene C. Davis

February 25, 1942 - February 27, 2022

Lorene C. Davis, 80, of Pascagoula, MS, went to be with Lord on Sunday, February 27, 2022. She was born on February 25, 1942, in Louisville, MS. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi and went on to teach a multitude of students at Pascagoula Junior High. She was passionate about teaching English and making sure students were exposed to classic novels such as Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and poetry like The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. She was known for correct grammar usage, teaching writing skills, and helping students develop a robust vocabulary. During her free time, Lorene enjoyed working in her yard and tending to flower beds. In her younger days, she could quickly find a four-leaf clover like no one else. One of her hobbies was repurposing furniture. Most of the beautiful pieces she owned were previously pieces of junk that she turned into masterpieces. She found it rewarding to memorize poetry and Bible scripture. About three months before she passed, she quoted the entire 23rd Psalm. The last verses speak of, “God preparing a table for his children and how goodness and mercy follow them all the days of their lives and they will dwell in the house of the Lord forever”. This is what Lorene is experiencing now after a long battle with numerous health conditions. She is healed! She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter, Sr. and Kathleen Langley, her brother, Walter Langley, Jr., brother-in-law, Donald Cumbest and niece, Lori Langley Sweeney. Left to cherish her memory is the father of her children, Thomas William Davis, Jr., sister, Anna Belle Cumbest; brother, Louis (Betty) Langley; son, Steve (Aleta) Davis; daughter, Debbie (Jimmy) Smith. Grandchildren; Dana (Ben) Requet, Nicole Ross, Jeremy (Alyssa) Davis, Kaitlyn (David) Page, Kye Smith, Kaden Smith. Great-grandchildren; Matthew Ditsworth, Mary Frances Requet; and one great-granddaughter due in July belonging to David and Kaitlyn Page. Nephews; Don Cumbest and Bryan (Carolyn) Langley and niece; Dr. Kathleen (Dr. Dodd) Mullican, along with great-nieces; Annabelle and Callie Mullican, great-nephews; Easton and Everett Sweeney, Walter and William Langley, other relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Serene Gardens on Highway 613 in Moss Point. Lorene’s beloved nephew, Don Cumbest, will share sentiments along with Pastor David Thomas officiating. Pallbearers will be Kye Smith, Kaden Smith, Dodd Mullican, Don Cumbest, David Page, and Matthew Ditsworth.
