Viola Louise Stokes King Belille
September 1, 1929 - February 2, 2022
Viola Louise Stokes King/Belille passed away Wednesday evening, February 2, 2022, at the age of 92. She was born September 1, 1929, in Pontiac, Michigan. Her childhood and teen years were spent in Gainesville, Florida, where she eventually met her first husband, Roy King. They were married shortly after World War II and she went to work for Southern Bell as a long-distance and international long-distance operator. When Roy bought Griffin Street Grocery in Moss Point, Viola would sometimes work there when other employees were ill or couldn’t make it to work. She also spent many years of her life doing what she loved the most--providing childcare services to small children of the family and friends. Recently attending her sister’s funeral, she was surrounded by young men who had all been taken care by her as they grew up. They were all hugging her and remembering good stories of times with her. Her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed her birthday cards, Christmas cards, and other holiday celebrations. She took the time to send gifts and goodies, selflessly made to bring joy into their lives. Christmas was always a special time when “Grandma’s” box arrived filled with little homemade gifts, chocolate chip peanut butter cookies in re-used bread bags, candied peanuts, pumpkin bars, Rice Krispy treats, and the list goes on. She was as faithful to send her gifts and cards as you could ever be. The children loved her for her goodness and kindness. Another facet of Viola’s life was her devotion and dedication to the Lord and serving Him and His children here on earth. For many years she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, teaching not only her own boys but the young boys of others about the wonders of nature and life. Field trips to the Beauvoir, the USS Alabama, the power plant, the telephone company, Bellingrath Gardens, and so many other places kept her Cubs coming. In the church, she taught young children in Sunday School and Primary. She had a great faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Through her faith, she became a mighty and much sought after, prayer warrior. There are many who experienced healing from their aches, pains, discomforts, diseases, etc. through her faithful prayers. People were calling her from all over Mississippi and beyond to have her pray for them. She never said no. She would always hear them out, and then pray for their deliverance from their afflictions and trials. Viola is survived by her five children: John Preston King, Roy Marshall King, Byron Monroe King, Celeste King (Terechinok), and Angela Louise King (Gardner). Brother Norman Stokes, 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchildren. Funeral Services for Viola will be held at Holder Wells Funeral Home, 4007 Main Street, Moss Point MS 39563 on Monday, February 7th. The viewing will be held at 12:00 PM and the funeral Service at 1:00 PM. She will then be buried beside her beloved husband, Roy, in the Machpelah Cemetery, Pascagoula MS.
